#1 – How many boxes can you tick on the Checklist for a happy cat?

Catfluencer Challenge #1

How many boxes can you tick on the Checklist for a happy cat?

We all want happy cats, but there is so much information of all kinds, where on earth do you start. That was also my challenge with this challenge: where do I start, my head is full of.

You can’t discuss everything at once, that’s all very well! During consultations I often see the overwhelming of enthusiasts, sometimes it’s just too much.
That’s why we love lists!

We promote extra attention on 18 basic needs you want to meet your cat in. If your cat misses certain things in her environment or sees them as unpredictable or unsafe, this increases the likelihood of restless, anxious and possibly other undesirable behaviour.

We’ll list them all for you:

O My cat has food and drink bowls that are far apart
O My cat has at least two eating places
Oh My cat has at least two drinking places
O My cat has at least two litter boxes
O My cat has a litter box that is optimized in size, shape, sand, location, beauty etc.
Oh My cat always has the choice to walk away
O My cat can hide if she thinks it’s necessary
O My cat has 24/7 access to every room in the house
O My cat won’t get caught
O My cat is only petted when she comes to ask for it herself
O My cat is not attacked by outdoor cats (physical & visual)
O My cat can go in height on hidden places and also on passageways, these places are always available
O My cat is allowed in the height when she wants it
Oh My cat is not being invasively punished (which she has no control over and has a fright reaction to)
O My cat gets understanding for her behavior
O My cat visits the vet at least once a year
O My cat is being watched extra for pain and changes in her behaviour
O My cat can smell my hand before I pet her.

Take a look at this checklist and think about what you can’t tick. Why don’t you? What’s stopping you? What can you do to make it possible? Maybe brainstorm again, with your family? Maybe you can accommodate your cat a little or just take it a little bit more into account? Further on in the challenge, we’re going to think about almost every point and explain why and how you can take this even further.

Love, Anneleen
